Girls’ Boarding School Facilities
Anne Symington House is a true home away from home, providing everything our boarders need under one roof. With modern facilities, including a spacious dining room, an inviting courtyard and cozy reception areas, every detail is designed to foster a warm and welcoming environment.
Boarding wings
Each of the six wings in Anne Symington House is home to a mix of boarding students from different year groups, which helps to create that true sense of family. Our girls enjoy bright, spacious rooms that feature wireless internet, reverse cycle air conditioning and individual study areas. Younger girls share a bedroom with another student, while Years 11 and 12 boarding students have their own rooms. Our younger girls change rooms each term, which helps them to create a wide circle of friends within their year group, while our older girls change rooms each semester. Our Year 12 boarding leaders help our girls forge friendships across all year levels.
Common areas
Our girls enjoy spacious common rooms and large recreation areas where they can gather and socialise. The landings, common room and recreation room have lounges, TVs, DVD players, fridges and microwaves so that students feel at home. There is also a designated fitness area with exercise equipment for students who wish to keep active. Our Year 12 boarders enjoy their own fully serviced common room.
Dining
Mealtimes are a real highlight for our boarders. Our Head Chef makes sure that everyone gets a healthy and balanced diet. We regularly ask students and parents for input on meal options, and our menus change each term so families can stay involved in our planning.
For breakfast, along with hot options and cereals, students can create their own muesli at our muesli bar. Morning tea and lunch are enjoyed outdoors in our beautifully landscaped grounds, while afternoon tea is served in the boarding house courtyard.
Dinner always offers a wide range of choices, both hot and cold, with special options for vegetarians and accommodations for allergies. Our kitchen team is great at handling different dietary needs, which provides a sense of comfort for parents.
Every term, we host a themed dinner where all our boarders gather to celebrate our tight-knit community.
Amenities
Living on campus means that our boarders have easy access to our fantastic school facilities, including tennis and basketball courts, gymnasiums, a workout room and a swimming and diving pool. They also enjoy after-hours access to our library and vibrant music and dance studios.
When it’s time to relax, the girls can spend time in our spacious, peaceful grounds or head to the much-loved boarders’ activity room, which is perfect for baking, sewing or just having fun with friends!
Safety
The safety and wellbeing of our boarders is our top priority.
Boarding staff are present within the house overnight from 3.00pm to 9.00am Monday to Friday and all-day Saturday and Sunday. A Senior Staff Supervisor is always on duty and our Head of Boarding lives on campus.
Each night, our external gates are closed at 10.00pm, and a night security company makes regular patrols of the school grounds and reports any incidents of concern to boarding staff. Security staff are also present on campus over the weekend.
We use an online system for parents to apply for and approve leave for their daughter. When girls wish to take leave, they are required to submit their leave request and their parents are then notified that a leave request is pending. Once this is approved, it is sent to the Head of Boarding for final sign-off. Students must be signed in and out by parents or approved hosts whenever they leave the boarding house.
