Wittenoom Secures Back-to-Back Swim Titles
POSTED February 16 2022 , News
Not even a modified carnival format could stop Wittenoom House from securing a second consecutive Senior School Interhouse Swimming title in 2022.
The girls in red were confirmed as Champion House today following two days of spirited swimming at the Sir Thomas Wardle Swimming Pool Complex.
While Wittenoom (4161 points) dominated the competition, the battle for the carnival’s other podium positions and minor placings was much closer.
Wardle placed second on 3830 points and Craig secured third place with 3773 points. They were closely followed by Riley (3565), Hackett (3331) and Lefroy (3163).
Three long-standing St Mary’s records and one more recent mark tumbled in the pool across last Friday and Monday’s meets:
– Josephine (Craig) broke the Year 10 backstroke record by completing the race in 32.54 seconds (Previous record: 33.03 seconds, set in 1997)
– Ella (Craig) broke the Year 7 50 metre butterfly record, setting a new mark of 32.71 seconds (Previous record: 32.79 seconds, set in 2014)
– Craig House’s Year 10 4×50 metre medley team (Josie, Emily, Lani and Emily) set a new record for the relay event, hitting the wall at 2:20:42 (Previous record: 2:30:51, set in 2003)
– Hackett House’s 4×50 metre freestyle team (Jaya, Grace, Amelia and Saskia) set a new milestone mark of 2:08:06 (Previous record: 2:08:12, set in 2021)
