Ruby wins coveted BUFTA award
POSTED November 28 2022 , News, Senior School
On behalf of the entire St Mary’s community, we wish to congratulate Year 12 student Ruby McGuire for winning the Best Achievement in Drama award at the 2022 Bond University Film and Television Awards for her short film, ‘The Stella Show’.
The BUFTAs are one of Australia’s premier film competitions for High School students and Ruby accepted her award at a glittering ceremony held on the Gold Coast at the weekend.
She was also nominated for several other prestigious honours, including the Best Directing, Best Editing and Best Scriptwriting Awards.
‘The Stella Show’ follows female protagonist, Stella, who is suddenly thrust from reality into an abstract world in which she is the main character of a TV show about her life.
The production crew consists of many clones of herself, which is representative of the environmental stimuli that influences one’s identity.
It is a thought-provoking and satirical piece that explores the innate fear of lacking authenticity and highlights the struggle that many young people face with self-criticism and their identity.
