Connection at heart of St Mary’s boarding experience

Feeling connected is fundamental to having a positive school experience, and that is why it is at the heart of our boarding philosophy at St Mary’s Anglican Girls’ School. We pride ourselves on fostering a safe and supportive environment where our boarders can discover their best and make friends for life.

According to Head of Boarding, Kellie Douglas, it takes a range of programs and activities to help students feel comfortable living away from home and enjoy their boarding experience in Perth.

“Getting to know St Mary’s starts from your first enquiry. We always invite families to tour our Karrinyup campus when they are thinking about joining St Mary’s, and we encourage their daughters to attend our annual “Look Inside Day”, which gives them a sneak peek into living in our boarding house,” Mrs Douglas said.

“In 2022, we launched our St Mary’s On-boarding Program, which begins the year before families start with us. It is centred around a series of online catch-ups designed to help incoming boarders and their families familiarise themselves with key boarding house staff and meet some current boarding students and other members of the St Mary’s community.

“Importantly, it also allows the girls to get a head start on making friends ahead of orientation and their first week living at school.

“We recognise that moving away from home and into a boarding school is a big step in the life of any girl. Feedback shows that our On-boarding Program helps students and their families feel more at ease before one of the biggest transitions in their lives.”
