Students tour HMS Tamar

POSTED May 18 2023 , News

Earlier today, a group of Year 11 Politics and Law and Economics students travelled to Garden Island for a guided tour of British naval vessel, the HMS Tamar.

Upon their arrival, the girls were welcomed as personal guests by the British Consul General in Western Australia, Tina Redshaw. The Captain, Commander Teilo Elliot-Smith, and other officers also welcomed the group aboard and took us to the ‘Officers’ Mess’, where they told the students about their role in the Asia-Pacific region. The girls watched a short video highlighting some of the work they have done in the three years since they had been away from the UK.

Afterwards, the girls were taken on tours around the vessel and viewed the bridge, the engine control room, the infirmary and the many different types of accommodation for navy personnel of varying ranks.

During the tour, our students asked some very inquiring questions, which the officers answered in detail.

It was a very generous gesture of the UK Consul General to invite us to tour a British naval vessel and the girls were extremely appreciative of this offer.
