Educators awarded prestigious Lynne Thomson Scholarship for global learning adventures

POSTED March 24 2025 , News, Parents & Community

Congratulations to two deserving staff members who are the latest recipients of the Lynne Thomson Overseas Scholarship.

The scholarship provides the opportunity to attend courses, shadow overseas educators, and participate in school programs across the globe.

We have two worthy recipients of this year’s scholarship:

Emma Grogan – Year 7 Humanities and Social Science teacher

Emma will be travelling to Finland to attend three interconnected courses on outdoor learning and cultivating happiness in our young people from educators who live in the world’s happiest nation.

Emma Grogan

Emma Penglis – Gifted and Talented Coordinator in Science

Emma Penglis

Emma will attend a Gifted and Talented course at Radboud University in the Netherlands. There, she will explore key theories and practical strategies for identifying gifted individuals, fostering self-regulated learning, supporting social-emotional development, and designing enrichment programs.

Lynne Thomson was Principal of St Mary’s for over 20 years and received her Master of Education at Harvard University. She described her time at Harvard as life-changing and believes education is the key to a lively and enlightened mind and a happy and challenging life. As such, it was fitting for a professional development scholarship to be named in her honour, with over 20 staff participating since its inception in 2018.

Congratulations to both ‘Emmas’ on this exceptional professional learning opportunity. We look forward to hearing how your learnings and experiences can enhance the educational experience for our students.
