SCUBA divers now industry-ready
POSTED September 9 2022 , News
In late August, 18 St Mary’s students braved rainy weather and freezing cold water to complete their PADI Rescue Diver certification.
This rescue diver certification is the minimum qualification required to do any kind of diving in the marine science research industry – from monitoring seagrass meadows to looking at biodiversity on a coral reef system.
The course is designed to put students through their paces and simulate stressful situations, and teach the students how to manage and cope effectively in such situations.
The students learned how to approach a panicked diver, how to retrieve an unresponsive diver and how to provide first aid and maintain life in a scuba diving emergency.
